San Procolo (St. Prokulus ) Church

kirche-naturns
The 7th century San Procolo Church is an absolute treasure in the holiday area of Merano and Environs. It is one of the oldest pre-Christian churches in South Tyrol. The church, located in Naturno (Naturns), is named after St. Proculus, the Bishop of Verona in the early fourth century. Visitors will find 14th century frescoes, the oldest in the entire German-speaking area, along with 8th century pre-Carolingian frescoes. Furthermore, the story of Genesis is represented on the southern side. The Procolo Museum features detached Gothic frescoes positioned above the pre-Carolingian murals. The church is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 9:30am to 12 noon and from 2:30pm to 5:30pm (from two weeks before Easter until the beginning of November).
