The Prince's Castle looks more like a royal residence and chapel than a manor. It was rebuilt in 1470 by Archduke Sigismund the Wealthy. In the 17th and 18th centuries the residence itself was used less and less, and this led to its ruin. In 1875 it was acquired and restored by the City of Merano (Meran). The original interior and furnishings were restored and improved with new acquisitions. Pieces of medieval furnishings, tools from daily life, portraits, musical instruments and armour are all on display.
