Juval Castle in Val Venosta (Vinschgau) valley, located on a prehistoric site, was built by Ugo di Montalban around 1278. More recently, Reinhold Messner has resided in the castle since 1983. The castle is home to one of four MMM museums (Messner Mountain Museum), dedicated to mountain legends. Visitors can admire a collection of Tibetan objects, a gallery that displays paintings of the world’s Sacred Mountains, a collection of masks from five continents, a full exhibition dedicated to Ling Gesar exhibition (a legendary Tibetan king), a room dedicated to Tantra and equipment used in Messner shipments. There is also a small animal park in the mountains, and the Schlosswirt restaurant serves typical local dishes. It is a truly memorable place.
