The Trauttmansdorff Castle in the spa city of Merano (Meran) was once the summer residence of the Empress Elizabeth. Now it is home to the Touriseum – the Tourism Museum. The 200 year history of tourism in North and South Tyrol can be found here, presented in a unique and fascinating way. Three of the rooms feature various original artefacts dedicated to the most important guest that once stayed at the castle, the Empress herself. The Touriseum is far from a dusty museum filled with long, boring texts. Visitors can admire a mechanical theatre and detailed models, as well as watch videos and listen to music. And do not forget to visit the Botanical Gardens, considered the most beautiful in Italy.
